Asia: An Undisputable Driver of the Global Economy

As worldwide trade is torn between protectionist backlash and emerging alliances, the Indo-Pacific is rewriting the rules of the game. Against this backdrop, the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) — a free trade agreement between Canada and 10 countries in the Indo-Pacific — is serving both as a strategic tool for Canadian-based businesses and as a test of our resilience. Now a key area for economic growth, the Indo-Pacific boasts diversification and expansion opportunities galore.

But behind the promise of tapping into new markets are several complex challenges, among them the strains of competition, the pressures on social, environmental and industry norms, and the tensions of geopolitical rivalries.

Realistically, can Canada secure its spot in the Indo-Pacific without compromising its values or putting its key industries at risk? What are some of the potential complications of becoming more dependent on Asian markets? How can the uncertainties of today be turned into the opportunities of tomorrow?

This edition of Rendez-vous ED x IIDE will be a strategic and candid look at Indo-Pacific trade dynamics, enabling you to make informed decisions moving forward and build better partnerships in this area of the world.
