Former Chief Ethics Officer, L’Oréal Group
A graduate in law from Paris I and II and the University of Chicago, a lawyer since 1988, Emmanuel Lulin worked at DEBEVOISE & PLIMPTON in Paris and New York (1989-1999) then joined L'ORÉAL in 1999 as Legal Director of Human Relations for the Group. In 2007 he created the General Ethics Department.
Emmanuel's achievements in the field of ethics are internationally recognized as visionary and innovative:
- first non-American to receive the Carol R. Marshall Award for Innovation in Corporate Ethics from the Ethics & Compliance Initiative in Washington DC (2015);
- recognized by the UN as UN Global Compact SDG Pioneer for Advancing Business Ethics (2018);
- first winner of the Excellence Award as an Ethical Influencer by the University of Cergy Pontoise (2018);
- first non-American to receive the Bill Daniels Being A Difference Award from the Center for Public Trust of the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (2019);

Emmanuel Lulin is very active in promoting business ethics:
Director of the Ethics Resource Center (since 2016), of the Ethics & Compliance Officer Association (2007-2012), of the Cercle Ethique des Affaires (2011-2017), former Chair of the Global Council on Business Conduct of the Conference Board, Advisor to “One Young World” (since 2016), former member of the Ethics Committee of the French Development Agency, UN Global Compact Expert (since 2018), member of the Think-Tank Trust and Governance of Deloitte (since 2018), Chairman of the ORSE Working Group “Ethics, Responsibility and Strategy” (2017).
In 2007, he initiated the creation of the world's first master's degree in business law and ethics at the University of Cergy-Pontoise; in 2012, he created the Club des Professionnels de l'Ethique; in 2016, he inspired the creation of ThinkH+, a think tank on transhumanism at the Clinique du droit de Sc-Po Paris.
Since 2013, to promote values-based business ethics, Emmanuel Lulin has given more than 110 Master Classes in major academic or business institutions on all continents. He has also been interviewed more than 100 times in major media on all continents.
Since 2007, L'ORÉAL has been recognized ten times as one of the World's Most Ethical Companies by Ethisphere. In 2019, L'OREAL was ranked first out of 6,600 global companies for its Ethics by Covalence. L'OREAL received the Grand Prix de la Transparence for its Ethics Charter (2017 & 2018), the Excellence Award for Ethical Governance (2018) and the Excellence Award for Ethical Leadership (2018).
