Jean-Simon Venne is a co-founder and CTO of BrainBox AI, where he leads the development and deployment of cutting-edge artificial intelligence solutions for the built environment.
A recognized technology leader with more than 25 years of experience, he specializes in the rapid and effective commercialization of advanced technologies, with a proven track record spanning the fields of telecommunications, biotechnology and energy efficiency. Before founding BrainBox AI, he played a pivotal role in integrating machine-to-machine (M2M) technologies into over 200 smart buildings across North America, Europe and the Middle East — pushing the boundaries of building automation long before it became mainstream.
His contributions to innovation and sustainability have earned him widespread recognition. He is a Senior Fellow of the AI for Developing Countries Forum (AIFOD) (2025) and a recipient of Canada’s Clean50 Award (2024). He has made TIME’s Best Inventions list twice (2024, 2020) and was honoured with the prestigious Governor General’s Innovation Award (2022).
He holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Industrial Engineering from Polytechnique Montréal and a Certificate in Logistics from the Georgia Institute of Technology. A passionate advocate for sustainable innovation, he is an active member of ASHRAE, where he contributes to four technical committees, and a member of Mila, Montreal’s world-renowned AI research institute. Over the years, he has also contributed to numerous scientific publications, advancing the dialogue at the intersection of artificial intelligence and energy efficiency.
