Gilles Marchand is the Director of the Media and Philanthropy Initiative (IMP) at the University of Geneva, the President of the Diablerets International Alpine Film Festival (FIFAD) and a board member of the Locarno Film Festival. He recently founded the Legitima consulting firm.
The former head of SRG SSR (the Swiss public broadcasting corporation), its French-language division (Télévision Suisse Romande) and the Ringier media group, he has played a key role in such organizations as Switzerland’s Federal Media Commission, the World Association of News Publishers, TV5 Monde and the European Broadcasting Union. He has also managed numerous training programs for independent publishers in Africa and Eastern Europe.
He began his professional career in book publishing after earning a master’s degree in sociology from the University of Geneva.
