Having begun his career in 1995 as a litigation lawyer in private practice, he then made the jump to the insurance sector in 1998 by actively participating, as a shareholder and senior executive, in the creation of a new insurance company. From 2009 to 2020, he was Vice-President, Legal Affairs and Corporate Secretary of La Capitale. After the latter's merger with SSQ, which resulted in the creation of Beneva, he was appointed to his current position.

In his role, he works closely with board members and acts as legal and strategic advisor on all matters relating to corporate governance, various business transactions, compliance and litigation.

Mr. Bellavance has been Chairman of the Board of Directors of Moi et ma planète since January 2020, a director of Lawyers Without Borders Canada since 2023 and a member of the Disciplinary Council of the Barreau du Québec. He also sits on various industry committees (Insurance Bureau of Canada and Canadian Life and Health Insurance Association), as part of consultations (guidelines and bills).

Within the community, he devotes himself to causes such as the Michel-Sarrazin Foundation and the Fondation du Séminaire des Pères Maristes, in addition to being a major donor to Centraide and governor of the Fondation du Barreau du Québec.
